Converted farm steading in the Scottish Borders – deep colourful borders and a circular pond

This wonderfully open and spacious garden was little more than a field when we first visited and although they both loved gardening the new owners were unsure of where to start.

Keen to keep the bright and natural look of the site, without obscuring the lovely views out towards the Eildons, it was important to give some feeling of enclosure without excluding the surrounding countryside.  Some shelter will be established as the young trees in the lawn mature – the huge pond is home to dozens of carp and is visited frequently by the surrounding birdlife.

The borders have matured well in just a few months and are full of colour all year round – a woodland border along the west of the garden will slowly mature to give a natural boundary full of leaf colour and berries.
